Adequate staffing is one of the most important factors in realizing truly effective marine protections. As nations take action towards 30x30 and new area-based protections are established around the world, we must keep pace on the capacity front to ensure these protections are delivering their promised ecological and socio-economic benefits.
In partnership with the Marine Conservation Institute (MPAtlas), IUCN World Commission on Marine Protected Areas, eOceans, and Leibniz-IZW, the Blue Nature Alliance has launched a study to assess the current state of the global MPA workforce and identify opportunities to address capacity gaps. Any staff members, contractors, or organizations representing a specific MPA are encouraged to participate.
